About

Welcome to Kerian Hibbs – Freediver and Student of Apnea.

Well I am a freediver, which is the most amazing sport to be involved with..
You learn more about yourself and your abilities than you could ever imagine when freediving.
Its a discovery of your mental ability more than physical ability leading to results which will astound you.
The human body is incredible and this is a journey into an alien world where you can learn to adapt and enjoy with the freedom of movement.

Freediving??? – what’s that?
Freediving, also called breath-hold or apnea diving, is diving without the assistance of breathing apparatus and has several formats such as unassisted depth diving (Constant Weight / Free Immersion) and depth diving with weighted sleds (Variable Weight / No Limits), both of which are done in the ocean.

In the pool are two primary disciplines.
One where the diver swims lengths underwater, with or without fins (Dynamic Apnea) and the other the diver simply floats in the water face down (Static Apnea).

Why Freediving? How did I get into it?
In April 2005 I met World Champion Freediver Ant Williams on a Reality TV show that we were both a part of, myself as a contestant and Ant as sports psycologist for the show.
During the course of many conversations he mentioned this Freediving gig – to cut a potentially boring story short, he took me freediving in Fiji where the show concluded, and I have been hooked ever since.

Ant provided me with some great advice regarding technique, training and freediving in general, for which I will always be grateful!

His mantra to me was;

“Train technique, distance will come with technique”.

I have lived by those sage words through out my free diving career and they have come more than true.
